Profits then improved significantly towards the end of 2001. This seems to have been because of the growth of China market.

In contrast, profits in the Singapore rose and reached a peak in 1996. This was probably because of the Singaporean taxation early 1990s. Then, the profits levelled off at about 50 millions until1996. However, this was followed by a sudden decline and profits declined to their lowest point of just 10 millions towards the end of 2001. This might have been because of the competition from Malaysia late 1990s.
